A modern aluminum pergola with a motorized roof that opens to the sky and closes against the weather — louvers in solid blade or glass, with optional sliding glass walls. The outdoor room that earns its keep in every season.
For thirty years we've built garden and commercial architecture in Massachusetts — in wood and in aluminum. The Aspendos is the rare piece we chose to bring in rather than build ourselves.
Over the last few years, more and more of our customers asked us the same thing: could we build them an automatic, mechanical louvered roof — one that opens to the sun and closes at the first drop of rain? A powered louvered system is its own engineering discipline, refined over years of dedicated production, so rather than approximate it we went looking for the best one in the world.
We found it in the Aspendos: motorized aluminum louvers, with optional walls of glass that slide away on a warm evening and seal out a cold one. It's made in Turkey and installed across Europe — in restaurants, rooftop terraces, and private residences where a structure has to be both beautiful and faultless. We bring it in, configure it for your site, manage delivery and installation, and where it makes sense we integrate our own custom wood and metalwork so it belongs to the rest of your property.
Every Aspendos is a working machine dressed as architecture. The louvers, walls, and frame are designed to be lived under year-round.
Aluminum blades rotate axially through at least 100° at the touch of a remote — full sun, dappled shade, or a sealed roof in seconds. Optional rain, sun, and wind sensors close it automatically.
Choose insulated solid-aluminum louvers (Aspendos Plus) for full shade and a defined ceiling, or 4+12+4 tempered glass louvers (Aspendos Glass) that stay bright and open to the sky.
Add glass walls that slide away to open the room completely, or close to create a sheltered, wind-free space that extends the season on both ends.
Louvers are internally corrugated and sealed with EPDM, and the frame carries rainwater down through the front posts — with sealing grooves on all four sides. No bolted-on gutters, no puddling.
Hidden, dimmable LED lighting runs along all four sides of the frame — built in, not added on, so the space works just as well after dark.
We powder-coat to any color and, where you want it, integrate our own custom wood and metalwork — trellis wall panels, screens, and roof sections that tie the frame into the rest of your property.
Across Europe, this system shades terraces, rooftop restaurants, and private residences — the kind of settings where a structure has to be both beautiful and faultless. The same unit that performs on a Mediterranean rooftop is the one we bring to your property, configured for New England weather and finished to your specification.
Lightweight aluminum, plastic components, and mechanisms that barely survive a season have given louvered pergolas a bad name. The Aspendos is a different class of product entirely — engineered to rigorous European building-code standards from 6063-T6 architectural aluminum on heavy 128 × 170 × 3 mm carriers, with a stainless-bearing, timing-belt drive made to open and close cleanly for years. It's built to last, and backed by a 2-year warranty.
The standard Aspendos is a freestanding unit in a 3-meter footprint. Pick your louver and size to buy it directly — or send the configuration to us for custom sizing, mounting, color, and add-ons.

Unit price is for the structure as configured. Delivery from our Massachusetts facility and installation are quoted separately based on your location and site. Typical lead time is ~3 months, as each unit is made to order in Europe. Most clients start with a consultation — we'll confirm sizing, color, mounting, and a delivered-and-installed price before anything is ordered.
A range of Aspendos installations and configurations — solid and glass louvers, freestanding and building-mounted, from garden terrace to city rooftop.

The standalone unit is only the starting point. The Aspendos is fully made-to-order, and most projects are customized in at least one way:

Tell us about your space and we'll come back with sizing, color and add-on options, a delivered-and-installed price, and a timeline. No pressure, no obligation — just a clear picture of what an Aspendos looks like at your address.
No — and we'd rather be upfront about it. We fabricate plenty of aluminum and wood structures in our own shop, but a powered, motorized bioclimatic roof is a specialized mechanical product that takes years of dedicated production to do well. The Aspendos is made by a manufacturer who does exactly that, in Turkey, with installations across Europe. We bring it in, configure it for your site, handle the order, manage delivery and installation, and integrate our own custom wood and metalwork where you want it.
The standalone structure as configured — frame, posts, motorized louvered roof, and controls — in the 3m × 3m solid-louver version. Glass louvers are $18,000, and the 3m × 4m footprint adds $750. Delivery from our Massachusetts facility and installation are quoted separately because they depend on your location and site conditions.
Yes. If you want the standard unit, you can configure it above and check out through our normal store — same secure checkout as the rest of the catalog. That said, because almost every Aspendos involves custom sizing, color, mounting, or delivery logistics, most clients start with a consultation so we can confirm the full delivered-and-installed picture first.
Plan on roughly three months. Each unit is made to order in Europe and shipped to us, so this isn't an off-the-shelf item. We'll give you a firm timeline as part of your consultation or order confirmation.
Absolutely. The Aspendos can be freestanding or mounted to the building, finished in nearly any color, and sized to your space. And because it's us, we can build custom wood trellis wall panels or roof sections in cedar or mahogany that tie the aluminum frame into the rest of your garden architecture.
