Installation
Our approach to installation is designed to make the process as seamless as possible, whether you're assembling a small trellis or a large custom arbor.
Assembly Details
The smaller units in our product line arrive completely assembled, ready to be placed in your garden or landscape.
For larger catalog items and custom projects, we include detailed, easy-to-follow installation instructions to guide you through the process.
Each of our arbors is preassembled in our workshop into several main components before being carefully packed for shipping. Our method of construction with fitted, grooved components allows not only for added strength but also for easy reassembly at your location.
Every component is predrilled, marked, and lettered to ensure an accurate fit. We provide the screw bit for your drill and all of the stainless steel screws needed for assembly. All that is required is a power drill.
Construction Details
When our structures stand a close order inspection, the craftsmanship and care become apparent.
Each of our pieces is handcrafted, incorporating the joints and methods applicable to the furniture trade in their construction. In addition, every piece is carefully inspected before leaving our premises.
Some of the more unusual details that we incorporate in our work, not normally found in the construction of garden arbors, are mortise and tenon joints, splined joints, channel dadoes, and dowel pins. These methods allow for positive and secure registration of subparts into a strong and unified structure.
The arches are assembled with three very strong three-inch dowel pins in every joint, using 100% waterproof glue.
Our system of utilizing very strong rust-proof aluminum pipes as a method for securing the arbor to the ground will last through the ages. The aluminum pipes are completely hidden and fit within the arbor post.

Materials
High quality products begin with high quality materials. The beauty of natural wood is evident in our products.
We use the finest grade western red cedar as our principal construction wood. According to the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory, western red cedar has the lowest rate of shrinkage of any wood, which means it is extremely stable and naturally resistant to warping and checking. Western red cedar is also among the most resistant to decay of all domestic woods, making it the ideal choice for outdoor garden structures.
Additionally, we have been using Alaskan yellow cedar, which has all of the properties of the high grade western red cedar that we use, and a variety of other environmentally friendly species that are stable and rot-resistant.
For the lattice wood, we use mahogany because of its strength in smaller cross sections. It is also very stable and resistant to decay. The lattice is assembled in a variety of ways: woven, full 1/2 lap, partial 1/2 lap, and the standard overlay method. The lattices are all very strong and assembled with stainless steel to avoid any streaking, rusting, or staining of the wood.
Our arbors and trellises are screwed together with stainless steel screws, which are stronger than nails and won't rust or stain the wood. Our metal stakes, which secure the arbors in the ground, are 1 3/8″ rust-proof aluminum pipes, with a thick 1/8″ wall and are 36″ in length.
We use an extremely durable, 100% waterproof polyurethane glue called Gorilla Glue. It is solvent-free and the strongest glue available.
Our gate latch is imported from England. It is a very high-quality piece of hardware that is galvanized and then black powder coated.
