Large Carport Pergola No. CTP9

An opportunity to design a large “carport pergola” on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island resulted in this impressive structure. These clients were a pleasure to work with and were open to many ideas.

The spans were in excess of 20 feet and are achieved by using a peaked roof supported by strong horizontals and stout curved brackets notched and through bolted. This is an extremely strong structure built in an area susceptible to hurricanes.

Details of the house were incorporated into the structure. As the pergola “grays out” it will appear as though it was constructed with the house. In time, the lattice panels will be covered with flowering vines.
